I’ve been trying to learn guitar for a number of years now off and on with no real direction or plan.

YouTube takes you down different routes and although useful continually distracts you to follow a different approach setting you back each time when you should be moving forward.

I finally decided one to one lessons was the way to go.

Mike is the perfect teacher.

Informal, friendly and knowledgable but above all perceptive to know what you personally need to do to improve.

After only one lesson Mike pointed out the areas for development so now every lesson helps me progress in a planned way so you always feel you are getting closer to your goals.

My son started drums this year, from the first lesson he has really enjoyed his lessons with Mike.

The lessons always have a variety of activities and the progress made is always clear. As a non-musician, I’m amazed at how quickly my son picks things up.

Under Mike’s tutelage , they already speak a language ( of drumming) that I can’t follow. Mike is patient and positive, calm but encouraging.

For me as a parent, Mike is flexible with lessons and the reminders and progress reports sent for every lesson are appreciated. He has helped us with advice in buying new kit and has shown us the options for gradings should we wish to sit them.

We’re very happy with his tuition.

I first contacted Mike via his web page after deciding I needed an alternative to the methods I had been using for almost 10 years.

Having owned several guitars and tried for a long time to teach myself to play using books and internet I was frustrated that, not only could I not play properly but I wasn't really sure that what I had picked up was correct.

I looked for a local teacher and coach and found Mike's website.

I started by attending Mike's studio for 30 minutes a week. The small details that Mike pointed out made a big difference and things started to come together and I'd say in the past 6 months I have improved more than in the last 10 years.

Mike's approach to learning at the students own pace and goals suited me well and although initially I just wanted to play very basic chords and melodies I've now moved on to more complex theory's including scales and song composition all whilst learning music theory and guitar tablature.

The lessons are challenging and emphasise practice and repetition, all of which has given me a renewed enthusiasm for guitar and the confidence that I can now aim to keep improving.

Mike Pinch's tutelage has been really supportive and confidence building. I started taking weekly lessons as a simple pastime, but the quality of guidance that I've received has turned this into something that I now love practising every day of the week.

The lessons have not just taught me how to play' songs, either- I've been encouraged to devise my own melodies, which has really developed my skills and knowledge.

I highly recommend Mike's teaching to anyone wishing to learn to play guitar themselves.

Mike,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the guitar lessons Tegan has had so far.

Tegan being of a quiet nature, I wasn’t sure how long she would last as girls of her age go through so many fazes, but from the very first lesson, the welcome and then professionalism from yourself has been second to none, with your teaching ability reflecting on how quick Tegan has progressed.

My daughter thoroughly enjoys every lesson, and the whole family get so much pleasure out of listening to her playing the guitar at home.

The guitar lessons have been fantastic, with Tegan and myself looking forward to many more.

All the best

Craig

I have been having guitar lessons with Mike since January 2018, and I have really enjoyed every minute of every lesson.  Mike is a dedicated tutor, has excellent communication skills, is extremely likeable and is highly motivational, his patience is without bounds.

Mike’s lessons are always structured, well thought through and are supported with appropriate material designed to develop the skills taught the previous lesson.

I had been having "lessons" through 2017 with another tutor but I can honestly say that I have learned more in the past 6 months with Mike than the whole of the previous year with my original tutor. More than that, Mike has motivated me to want to learn more, this is without doubt a defining character of a true tutor.

I have no hesitation in recommending Mike to anybody wanting to learn guitar, and would encourage them to contact Mike for a chat, this is what I did and have never looked back.

I have known Mike for about a year now, since he began teaching my teenage son the electric guitar. In that time he has taken him from a complete beginner to giving him the confidence and skills to learn and practice many more difficult pieces of music.

From the onset Mike has shown himself to be very professional, patient and easy going, giving flexible and fun lessons, which he structures around my son’s tastes and ability. For example, if Euan wanted to learn a particular song, he would help him to learn the techniques needed through a step-by-step approach. Mike’s knowledge and passion for teaching guitar has meant that Euan’s level of competence in playing the guitar increases after every lesson.

Mike’s teaching gives my son motivation and self-assurance and this shows as he always comes away from lessons feeling cheerful and enthusiastic about practising what he has learned. This in turn has had a positive influence on my son’s general attitude to learning and sacrificing his free time to improve on something. He is now keen to show us what he can play; as a result spending more quality time with us as a family.

Mike has also provided my son with music chord worksheets as well as advice about equipment and books to enhance the quality of his playing, to produce different sounds and to aid his learning of new songs. Mike has also allowed Euan to make recordings of his music, which have been sent to my son via email, enabling him to listen to and use at home. This has all been a great help and very much appreciated.

I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Mike as a great tutor to anyone who wanted to learn guitar in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere.
